Board members and staff reported progress from a Comprehensive Literacy Grant retreat aimed at creating a valley-wide Tier 1 instructional model. Team members (Sarah White, Jackie Webb, Cindy Ward and others) drafted a plan to develop a needs assessment, recommend instructional materials, and schedule professional development for literacy teachers beginning in the 2026–27 school year.
The Literacy Council plans to begin public-facing work during the Valley Educator Fair on Jan. 16, at which the council will introduce the grant goals and begin verifying district self-assessments. Board members described the retreat outcomes as a foundation for strengthening Tier 1 literacy instruction across the region.
