Oak Park Fire Safe Council highlights home-hardening, grant-funded fuel reduction

John Faucher, chair of the Oak Park Fire Safe Council, briefed the Municipal Advisory Council on local wildfire preparedness efforts and resources available to residents. Faucher said the council’s mission is to educate the community on fire safety, home hardening, and fuel reduction; it offers pre-paid home assessments available at OPFSC.org, distributed informational mailers in January, and has secured grant funding for vegetation abatement that has supported work in Medea Creek.
Councilmembers thanked the OPFSC for community engagement; Brian Trushinski described the organization as “residents helping residents” and stressed protecting native species when using fuel reduction methods such as goat grazing. Faucher reported there are seven established Firewise communities in Oak Park with one additional community in progress and noted that Firewise designation may support insurance rate considerations for eligible neighborhoods.
