Slaton ISD earns 'A' on state financial report; Board approves FIRST report

The Slaton Independent School District Board held a public hearing Oct. 14 on the district’s 2024–25 Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) report and approved the report after hearing from Chief Financial Officer Art Martin. "There were no concerns," Martin told the Board while presenting the report, and he said Slaton ISD "received a superior rating of \"A\" and a score of 94 out of a possible score of 100." The public hearing opened at 7:32 p.m. and, with no public questions, closed at 7:36 p.m.
The FIRST report serves as the district’s financial report card. Board President Carlos Bentancourt presided over the hearing and the subsequent approval vote; the Board approved the report on a motion by Jaime Diaz, seconded by Greg Schilling, with the motion carrying unanimously (5–0). The approval was recorded as a formal action on the Oct. 14 consent and action items list. The Board did not record any follow‑up directions tied to the FIRST report during the meeting.
