Committee referrals and tables: what advanced and what was held
Summary
At the end of the session the special committee referred several memorial applications to the full city council and Park Board (scheduled for Sept. 25) and tabled others pending solicitor or DPI follow-up; the committee set dates and asked staff for technical reviews and cost estimates.
The special committee on memorials and dedications concluded its meeting with a set of referrals and tablings that structure next steps:
- Referred to full city council and Park Board for Sept. 25: Monte Park memorial for Anton T. Fortz (plaque), Brooklawn Diamond No. 3 renaming to "Founders Field," and the memorial bench and plaque for Rochelle Lynn "Coco" Paris at Ash & Morgan. These items were moved and seconded in committee and recorded for the Sept. 25 council agenda.
- Referred to full council pending confirmation: Plaque request at Lincoln Elementary (Leotina Da Costa). Committee requested written confirmation from the Department of Public Infrastructure and school administration on whether the bench sits on city layout or school property before the council acts.
- Tabled for 30 days pending solicitor/department follow-up: Pimentel family monument on parcel identified as Map 10 Lot 108 (Clark's Point) was tabled pending a status update from the city solicitor’s office. Items to honor Joe Jesus and Philip C. and Celeste Paliologos were taken off the table for discussion and then tabled again pending DPI map and cost estimates for traffic-signal-mounted signage.
Next steps: The committee expects DPI, the mayor’s office and the city solicitor to provide requested confirmations or cost estimates and will revisit tabled items after those updates.
