Family seeks memorial bench and plaque for Rochelle “Coco” Paris at Ash and Morgan

Shontay Paris told the committee she began leaving decorated cups at the fence after Coco’s death 10 years ago and later planted perennials and a tree; she described the corner as a community gathering point and asked the committee to approve a bench there.
Council members praised the family’s work maintaining the corner and noted the bench would complement the existing plantings and memorial decorations. A motion to refer the Parks Department’s application to the full city council and the Park Board for the Sept. 25 meeting was made, seconded and approved.
Next steps: The item will appear on the Sept. 25 council agenda; Parks staff and the Park Board will review placement and plaque wording if the council advances the referral.
