Superintendent Smith told the subcommittee that Connecticut requires HVAC air testing within the period July 1, 2026–June 30, 2031, and that the district will be required to test 20% of buildings per year. For RSD17 that equates to roughly one school per year; Smith reported the testing cost at this time is $23,400.
Because the cost was not budgeted in the current year, the committee agreed to defer testing until FY27 to allow the cost to be included in next year’s budget. The committee discussed completing testing for BES and KES in the FY27 cycle.
