The Londonderry Select Board voted April 7 to authorize the Mountain Towns Recreation Director to spend up to $10,000 to purchase a used 0.5-ton vehicle to support parks maintenance and the new part-time seasonal maintenance position. The board approved the motion by voice vote after Recreation Director (speaker 5) described towing and mowing needs and members agreed to involve road foreman Josh in vehicle selection.
Board members discussed trade-offs between buying a used vehicle now and coordinating with the town truck replacement schedule later, as well as potential maintenance and insurance implications if the vehicle is stored at the town garage. "I would move that we authorize the Mountain Towns Recreation Director to spend up to $10,000 to purchase a used, vehicle for the Mountain Towns Recreation Program," a board member said when making the motion. Members emphasized the need for input from the road crew and for a modest plan to limit the town's exposure while the parks program establishes its year-round needs.
