Milo approves permits for Uniti fiber project as company pledges faster service starting August

Matt Graham of Uniti (Kinetic/Windstream) presented maps and an overview of a planned investment to replace copper lines with fiber optics in Milo and surrounding rural areas, saying the change is meant to solve corrosion-related connection issues and deliver faster service at lower cost. "Moving from copper to fiber optic line is because copper corrodes causing bad connections and slower speeds," Graham told the council; he said the project will begin in August 2026.
After the presentation, Councilmember Griggs moved and Councilmember Amsden seconded approval of Kinetic permits 59011 and 59078 to install the updated fiber optic infrastructure in Milo according to two plan sets reviewed by the mayor and council. The motion passed with Amsden, Griggs, Mason and Rodgers voting aye and Rasmussen recorded absent.
