Alva Mobley, the Red Clay Consolidated School District chief communications officer, opened the town hall and framed the meeting as focused on how the board should proceed with the superintendent search rather than endorsing specific candidates. "Tonight is not a forum for endorsing or opposing an individual candidate or determining who should become the next Red Clay superintendent," Mobley said as she described the purpose of the session.
The board presented three explicit options: directly appointing a permanent superintendent, selecting a search partner to assist with candidate sourcing and vetting, or issuing a public request for proposals (RFP) to invite competing firms. The board president said finding the right leader is the priority even if that requires a longer timeline: "I think one thing that we've had a conversation about a lot is making sure we're finding the right person for the role," she said. The board emphasized the choice involves tradeoffs: appointment is faster and less costly, while an RFP provides more transparency and broader options but adds time and expense.
The district will compile input from tonight's town hall, online forms, and three additional meetings into a public report to inform the board's decision. Mobley said the compiled feedback will be presented publicly to the Board of Education and used to shape next steps in the selection process.
