Lonnie Norris, introduced by the emcee as a former member of the Young Adult Police Commission and a Woodside High School graduate, congratulated the officers and reflected on how the commission shaped his view of police.
"As a former member of the Young Adult Peace Commissioners, I was able to increase my open mindedness towards the police force by putting myself in a better position to see them as human beings rather than another worker from the system," Norris said, urging officers to continue community engagement and mentorship.
Norris told the audience the promoted officers model service for future students and community members and encouraged them to lead with courage, kindness and patience. His remarks highlighted the department's youth-engagement efforts and the continuity between community programs and departmental leadership development.
