A resident said she is seeking help after neighbors allegedly built a structure "1 inch off of my property" and removed tall trees that bordered her yard.
Cheryl Sutton told the commissioners she has had her property surveyed three times, said the neighbors claimed they owned eight feet of land, and described garbage, dogs and people smoking on or near her property. "They've built a building 1 inch off of my property after claiming to own 8 feet," Sutton said. She said Mahoning County dispute resolution has been involved but she is frustrated that zoning and the mayor's office have not resolved the matter.
Commission staff and a commissioner advised Sutton to wait for the completed survey and then present it to zoning; staff suggested she consult an attorney and county staff offered to talk with her after the meeting and capture contact details.
The board did not take formal action on the complaint at the meeting; staff indicated the next practical steps are verifying the survey, zoning review and any civil remedies outside the county's direct authority.
