Traffic council approves accessible parking at 60 Lincoln Road after residents describe medical need

The Newton Traffic Council voted 4–1 on July 30 to approve an accessible on-street parking space at 60 Lincoln Road, a request previously approved by the Newton Commission on Disability.
Chair David Koses told the council the property at 60 Lincoln Road appears to lack off-street parking and noted an accessible spot already exists two houses away but residents and the petitioner’s neighbors said a second space is needed. Resident Terry Saro said the occupant is undergoing chemotherapy and needs the space for medical reasons: "I mean, she has cancer." The motion to approve was made by Councilor Block and passed with Captain Devine voting no.
Councilors and residents also discussed enforcement and alternatives; Koses said a denial or approval can be appealed within 20 days and that, if unappealed, DPW will request DigSafe and schedule sign installation. The council recorded the approved docket as TPR1072 and reminded residents the appeals deadline is Aug. 19.
The vote was procedural and final unless appealed; no petitioner appeared in person but the Commission on Disability’s approval and local photos were entered into the record.
