Roof, windows and seismic checks part of Don Pearson renovation, staff say

City staff described the physical scope of work at the Don Pearson Senior Activity Center as focusing on the building envelope and seismic condition. Alicia Smothers said the project will replace the roof, siding and nearly 100 windows, bring the building envelope to compliance and include seismic evaluations to inform future work.
"With this project scope, we are planning on also doing seismic evaluations to understand any potential considerations for future projects," Smothers said. She displayed progress photos showing demolition, removal of existing roofing and ductwork and delivery and staging of roofing and mechanical equipment on site.
Council members asked whether visible cracking and unreinforced masonry elements would require pillar replacement or larger retrofits; Smothers said anchors and further evaluations are included in the scope and that additional recommendations may follow after full evaluation. She added that roofing and window work are weather-dependent and that the construction team is actively covering work during intermittent rain.
