Committee recommends recodifying student wellness policy as Student Nutrition & Physical Activity

The New London Board of Education Policy Committee voted on Feb. 24 to recommend that the full Board recodify Policy 6142.2 — Student Wellness — to a new designation, 6142.101, titled Student Nutrition & Physical Activity. The recommendation, moved by Chair Scott Garbini and seconded by Becky Amanti, passed 3-0.
Kristea A. Francolino explained that the policy had been referred back to committee and that the paragraph describing committee role and membership "appeared confusing"; she suggested converting the paragraph to bullet points and removing parenthetical examples to improve readability. Dr. Cynthia Ritchie noted the policy currently used the abbreviation "DWC" instead of "SWC," and Francolino said she would update the heading to read "District Wellness Committee" for clarity and consistency. The committee approved the recodification and directed the administrative edits discussed during the meeting.
