Resident warns of foundation damage as Board considers Lake 8 drainage work

Rich Batterberry, an Oak Run resident and representative of his neighborhood, told the River Ridge Community Development District Board that residents praise recent work at Seaside and want similar attention near Lake 8, where "Residents are concerned the water is getting under the foundations." He said pooled rainwater from the monument down to halfway along Lake 8 takes a long time to recede and that one homeowner "incurred significant costs trying to mitigate water coming up through the floor."
District Engineer Charlie Krebs said the Seaside area had not been regraded and that completing similar regrading work at Lake 8 could address the standing-water problem. Chair Bob Schultz told residents the matter would be considered during the Fiscal Year 2025/2026 budget process but did not commit to a timetable for design or construction.
The exchange came during the public-comment portion of the Jan. 28 meeting after residents asked the Board to prioritize reducing persistent ponding that they say risks home foundations. Board members asked staff to collect cost estimates and to include the Lake 8 stormwater management project among forecast items to be addressed in future budget discussions.
