CDD urged to help coordinate long-term storm surge resilience work

Eric Long described an action plan being developed to increase resilience to storms and climate change and proposed creating an advisory/review panel. He asked the CDD to help by designating a Board representative and staff or engineering representative to coordinate with county, state and neighboring agencies.
Long presented a hypothetical topographic analysis: "a 10’ to 12’ storm surge could have caused 45% to 55% of the community to be flooded," and argued that planning and multi-agency coordination could take a decade and require funding. The Board reached a consensus that Mr. Long and Mr. Merrill will assist and authorized Charlie Krebs to help as necessary. Staff and counsel discussed that Army Corps ideas exist but implementation would depend on funding and approvals at county and state levels.
