Laconia presenters highlight career-connected learning from Pre-K through grade 12

School leaders described programs offering in-school and out-of-school career-connected experiences, including credit-bearing high-school opportunities, a free five-week summer program and after-school slots; they cited NH research that participation increases student hope and engagement.
Kerri Howe, Office of Extended Learning Administrator, accompanied by Lisa Hinds and Candace Hide, presented the Office of Extended Learning’s work to increase career-connected learning opportunities for Laconia students from Pre-K through grade 12. Presenters described in-school options, out-of-school enrichment (STEM, arts, theater), job shadows and industry-recognized credentials at the high school, and a five-week summer program that had over 300 applicants for 150 elementary spots.
Howe referenced research from the NH Learning Initiative: "THE POWER OF CAREER-CONNECTED LEARNING IN NEW HAMPSHIRE shows that students who participate in at least one career-connected learning opportunity have increased hope about their future and engagement in their learning." The mayor and council thanked the presenters and invited them to return with student success stories and direct testimony from participating students.
