The Laconia City Council voted 6-0 to waive special-event, vendor and loudspeaker fees for the Lakes Region Sled Dog Club’s Feb. 13–15, 2026 sled-dog event. Councilor Soucy moved to approve the fee waiver and Councilor Conant seconded; no discussion followed before the unanimous vote.
Jennifer Hallows, president of the Lakes Region Sled Dog Club, confirmed the group is a nonprofit and said fundraising “goes to running the event, attracting the mushers and a portion is donated to the Children’s Auction.” The Special Events Review Committee had already approved the event at its Feb. 4 meeting. The council was briefed on the fee amounts that would apply if the waiver were denied: $700 for special-event license and vendor fees and $10 for a loudspeaker fee.
