District highlights student career learning, greenhouse grant spend‑down and strong online participation

District staff used the May 6 meeting to report on several student programs and instructional highlights across Ponderosa High School, Tse' Yaato' High School and the AOI online program.
Les Hauer, Ponderosa High School principal, said students toured municipal facilities and local employers — including Flagstaff Public Works and Flagstaff Animal Control — and "had a strong showing" at the KidWind Challenge, with staff pursuing internships and employment pathways for graduates. Principal Traci Parker described Tse' Yaato' activities including greenhouse work (she and a colleague completed the spend‑down with students who planted trees and plants), visits to the library and Arizona Supreme Court oral arguments, and the school's seasonal garden and applied-geometry photography lessons.
AOI Coordinator Emily Morton reported summer school enrollment was full with a waiting list and that online students showed strong progress: more than 33% had completed four required courses and started four more, 55% had completed one or more courses, and a total of 46 courses had been completed during the term. Morton said it "appeared all students were on track to finish their courses for the quarter."
