Trustees revisit pilot ordinance on backyard chickens; board asks police to follow up on roaming birds

Trustee Bogacz raised a review of Ordinance 554, the village’s pilot program allowing poultry, saying the one‑year review this month had turned up no major problems but that one household on Spring Road appears to have chickens roaming outside the required enclosure.
"When we did this Ordinance two (2) years ago we made it for one (1) year and we would re‑visit it to see how it was going," Trustee Bogacz said. She asked that the owner be reminded that the ordinance requires birds be enclosed to prevent animal intrusion. Resident Shirley added that coops must be kept clean to avoid attracting rodents. Deputy Clerk Prehn said Sergeant Beatty will speak with the resident on Spring Road.
The board did not change Ordinance 554 at the meeting but asked staff and police to follow up on the reported violation and return any findings to the board.
