County approves multiple corrections facility upgrades from cameras to cell repairs

The Ways and Means Committee approved a slate of corrections-related capital projects: perimeter cameras and gate ($300k), kitchen renovations ($175k), BMS/HVAC upgrades ($150k), cell replacements and loading-dock repairs ($500k), security panel and doors upgrades ($100k–$500k), perimeter lighting ($100k) and sub-dayrooms ($500k).
Colonel Lawrence Catletti presented a package of capital requests for the corrections facility and the committee approved multiple appropriations spanning perimeter security, kitchen equipment, building systems and inmate housing improvements. On perimeter security, Catletti said the project is intended to create a physical barrier and enhance exterior cameras after vehicles mistakenly drove down facility roads.
Regarding the kitchen request, Catletti said the equipment is original to the building (from 2001) and parts are no longer available: "It is original equipment that came with the building back in 2001... it is at the end of life where we cannot even get parts for it anymore." For building management and HVAC upgrades he called it an "end-of-life situation with the technology" and said legacy components are incompatible with newer systems, requiring replacement of infrastructure and network cabling. The committee approved all motions; staff said work will be phased and coordinated with DPW and vendors.
