County moves to cover bid shortfall for Pumpkin Swamp Bridge in Goshen

The Ways and Means Committee approved a $1,000,000 supplemental appropriation (bonding) to fund the Pumpkin Swamp Bridge replacement in the Town of Goshen, shifting funds from Project No. 461. Ryan McGuire, Deputy Commissioner, said the bridge on County Route 25 crosses Quaker Creek, has a 63-foot span, was constructed in 1974, and "exceeds about 4,000 vehicles a day." He reported the low bid came in just under $4 million and matched the engineer’s recent estimate.
Mr. McGuire told the committee the bridge has a 4.5 out of 7 bridge rating and noted the project was determined to be a Type II action under NYCRR Part 617.5(c) (SEQRA), meaning the agency issued a Negative Declaration and determined no significant adverse environmental impacts were anticipated. The motion carried unanimously.
