Orange County approves sewer-district vehicle and treatment-plant equipment upgrades

The Ways and Means Committee approved a $15,000 supplemental appropriation to Capital Project No. 70 to acquire a replacement pickup truck (an F250 short cab with hazard lights and a plow) for Orange County Sewer District No. 1. Robert Gray, Deputy Commissioner, said the truck is replacing a 10-year-old vehicle and that procurement will be handled through public bidding.
The committee also approved $215,000 bonding for equipment tied to planned upgrades at the district’s treatment facility. Gray told the committee the treatment plant is "really three treatment plants: Trains 1, 2 and 3, each capable of treating 2 million gallons a day." He explained that upgrades will take Train 1 out of service, demolish Train 2 while Train 3 remains in operation, and install a Sequencing Batch Reactor; the work will require an interim treatment permit and replacement of control panels, pumps, an isolation valve and process lines.
