SUNY Orange wins approval to begin Phase 1 of $59.9 million facilities master plan

Dr. Kristine Young, president of Orange County Community College, presented the SUNY Orange Facilities Master Plan and told the committee the college expects to be able to adapt to changing enrollment if it retains faculty expertise. "Enrollments are always up and down but as long as they have the faculty expertise, they are flexible and can meet the demand," she said.
Committee member Genesis Ramos moved approval to proceed with final design and engineering for Phase 1 at an estimated $3,400,000, with Orange County providing $1,700,000 to be matched by New York State; the motion carried. A second motion approved the remaining $56,500,000 for construction, noting Phase 1 work will be renovations of existing buildings and is expected to be implemented by 2029. Ms. Ramos framed the project as a three-phase, 10–12 year plan with an estimated total Phase 1 cost of $59,900,000 and a 50/50 County–State funding split.
Chairwoman Virginia Scott said she favored the plan’s approach to creating concentrated educational hubs to support student success and cited rising enrollment trends in support of a data-driven plan. The committee approved both motions "All in favor."
