The Mayor and Council voted to accept for filing Resolution 72-2025, asking the Sussex County Clerk to include a non-binding municipal public question on the Nov. 4, 2025 general election ballot. The ballot question asks: "Should the Borough of Ogdensburg sell by way of public auction the Borough owned property located at Block 26.06, Lots 6 & 8 (commonly known as Willis Avenue) and Lot 9 (commonly known as 8 Willis Avenue), and formally owned and operated by the Ogdensburg First Aid Squad?"
The explanatory statement in the resolution recounts that the Borough took title in 1951, transferred the property to the First Aid Squad by deed in 1966 with a reverter clause, and resumed title in February 2024 after the First Aid Squad disbanded. Councilman Ciasullo said he voted against item 4 on the consent agenda because he believes council members are elected to make decisions with more direct knowledge than a general referendum: "council members are elected to make decisions for the Borough based on the knowledge that they have." The resolution does not bind the Governing Body; it is expressly memorialized as an expression of public sentiment under N.J.S.A. 19:37-1 and N.J.S.A. 19:37-4.
