Fiscal court honors retiring firefighters and approves multiple hires and promotions
Summary

The fiscal court paused its agenda to recognize three retiring Franklin County Fire Department members: Captain Eric Simpson, Tangy Forest Palmer and Captain Zach McDonald. Court members praised their years of service; Chief and colleagues described their leadership contributions.
Later in the meeting — during the voting session — the court authorized the hiring of three new firefighters (Nathaniel Newton, Luther May and Felix Reyes) and approved multiple promotions within the department, including a promotion of Captain James Hodge to battalion chief and several engineers promoted to captain or engineer ranks. The judge and county staff thanked the promoted and newly hired employees for committing to county service.
Assistant Chief Mertz (S16) described promotion openings created by retirements and supported the personnel moves as succession for experienced staff.
