The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) said construction on the Rebuild by Design Hudson River project began on 07/20/2026 and outlined the primary scope of work.
"Start date, this work started on 07/20/2026," the agency official said, summarizing the timeline. NJDEP described core activities as excavation, installation of micropiles, relocation of existing utilities, construction of the gate foundation (including formwork, reinforcement and rail installation), installation of a rolling gate and restoration of sites to preconstruction conditions.
NJDEP said the work spans multiple municipalities and will be phased by alignment and zone to limit disruption. The agency emphasized sequencing and the potential for temporary pauses if unexpected underground conditions are encountered. The presentation noted that a final phase of inspections, mobilization and approvals will occur as each zone nears completion.
The update is intended to inform nearby residents and businesses about the current schedule and major construction tasks for the coming weeks.
