The council voted unanimously to approve a resolution appointing Stinson Ferguson as city attorney during the July 27 meeting.
Chris Story presented Ferguson's background, noting her local roots and experience as a municipal judge and in environmental and utilities litigation, and recommended the council approve the resolution. "She has a depth and breadth of experience that will significantly strengthen our organization from day one," Story said. Councilmember Sally moved to adopt the resolution and the council approved it by voice vote.
Ferguson, who the resolution will bring on as city attorney, spoke briefly after the vote and thanked the mayor, the clerk and council for the appointment. "I look forward to returning to my hometown and serving Spartanburg," she said.
The transcript records the motion, second and a unanimous voice vote; the council did not attach additional conditions to the appointment during the meeting.
