NJIT describes interagency brownfields forum aimed at unsticking complex sites

Caitlin Bruno, director of environmental services at the New Jersey Institute of Technology's TAB, outlined an interagency Brownfield Collaborative Forum that brings communities together with federal and state agencies to brainstorm technical, funding and regulatory sequencing for complex sites. "The purpose really is to work together, learn from each other, and help New Jersey Brownfield communities," Bruno said, explaining the forum convenes NJIT, EPA, NJDEP, NJEDA and other federal and state partners to discuss project hurdles ranging from historic preservation to wastewater and property acquisition.
Bruno said communities that nominate sites should have some site assessment data and a reuse vision, and that the forum is intended as an invited, closed convening for municipal and agency staff rather than a public comment venue. She asked attendees to use the provided QR code or link to nominate "stuck" properties that would benefit from multi‑agency problem solving and said participants receive a memo of recommendations following the forum.
