Board approves Canton Christmas Festival on courthouse grounds

Laurie Prince, special events manager for Canton Tourism, asked the Madison County Board of Supervisors for permission to use the courthouse grounds for the Canton Christmas Festival from Oct. 12 through Jan. 29 of next year. "We come before you today to ask for use of the courthouse grounds for our very important Christmas festival," Prince said, explaining that the community response to prior initiatives has been strong.
Ed Hutchison, introduced by Prince as the tourism board president and a local merchant and radio owner, said the event is "very vital to the community, to Madison County, but also to Canton itself." Supervisor Griffin moved to approve the request; Supervisor Banks seconded and the board approved the motion by voice vote.
