The Town of Smyrna Beer Board voted Aug. 3 to approve an on‑premise beer permit for Jonathan's Grill Smyrna LLC after a public hearing in which the company outlined operating plans and compliance measures.
Lofton Tu, the restaurant's beverage director, said the planned Smyrna location at 160 Sam Ridley Parkway aims to open around Aug. 17 if certificates of occupancy are secured. Tu described the concept as "not just a bar. We're a family restaurant 1st that has a bar," and said the bar area would be limited to those 21 and older; "Every single person gets ID ed," he told the board. Tu also said the operation will include roughly "34 taps, 40 bottles on our, menu."
Manager Marcela James and other staff described a daily training regimen, manager escalation for suspected overservice and periodic secret‑shopper checks to verify compliance. After discussion the board closed the hearing, moved to approve the on‑premise permit and voted in favor.
