At its Nov. 17 meeting the Columbus Public Schools Board adopted File 604.17, "Use of Artificial Intelligence in the School," as the second and final reading of the policy document included in the packet. The policy defines AI, requires district approval before AI platforms are available on district devices, and instructs staff to require students to cite AI systems when those systems contribute to assignments.
The policy additionally emphasizes student privacy and discourages collecting or analyzing student data using AI platforms. It calls for educator training on AI benefits and limitations, notes the limitations of AI-detection tools, and authorizes the superintendent to implement procedures consistent with the policy. The policy record shows an adoption date of 11/17/2025.
