County administration to form rural summit planning committee after election

County administration proposed forming a planning committee to organize a rural summit in the fall shortly after election day. Robert Wilson described recommended categories of representatives including Cass County Extension, economic development partners, county communications, a county commissioner (suggested Commissioner Beitle), a representative from the state's attorney's office, and an energy-sector representative to address topics raised in a rural survey such as data farms, solar and wind.
Wilson said he would welcome feedback but planned to move forward assembling the committee and getting an initial meeting scheduled. Commissioners indicated no objection to proceeding and asked administration to return with specifics as the group organizes. The commission did not take a formal vote to create the committee but authorized staff to continue planning and bring details back for consideration.
The planning effort aims to surface resources, potential USDA rural development programs and to include stakeholders from town and small-city governments in countywide conversations about rural development and infrastructure.
