Brianna Storm Baker, a Kanita town commissioner speaking as a resident, told the Edgecombe County Board of Commissioners that the Kanita Mobile Home Park has been a long‑standing health and safety problem and that 14 abandoned trailers remain in the park.
Baker said the town had condemned several units in December 2025 but that the site remains unsanitary and unattractive, with overgrown grass and pests. “I’m calling upon the board of commissioners today to do whatever it takes to help us get rid of these trailer parks,” she said, asking the county to assist the town in enforcement or removal actions. Planning staff reported multiple meetings with town officials and representatives of Forbes Rental 1 LLC and said building inspectors had condemned most mobile homes; staff said it will follow up with the town and the property owner and report back to the board at next month’s meeting.
Chair asked staff to pursue more aggressive follow‑up and requested letters and documentation to prompt compliance. The board committed to report on enforcement efforts in the coming month.
