At the public hearing, John Oney of Destination Dayton said the proposed headquarter hotel would help the city compete for larger conventions and estimated roughly $25 million in additional regional economic impact from future events.
Residents at the hearing reiterated concerns about transparency and fiscal risk. Rodney Stark acknowledged support for downtown development but questioned the need for the NCA to resolve the hotel’s funding gap and asked whether existing funding mechanisms or lodging revenues could cover the shortfall. Asha Parson of the Oregon District Business Association said neighborhood business associations have worked with MCCFA on local priorities and expressed support for voluntary, locally driven investments through the NCA.
Speakers from business and tourism emphasized increased visitor spending and benefits for restaurants, hotels and attractions regionally, but residents asked the Commission to require clearer reporting on contracts, tax incentives and long‑term obligations before committing to financing tools that could be used for the hotel project.
