Commission approves $500,000 reallocation to Springfield parking project

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission voted 4-0 to approve Springfield’s request to reallocate two grants totaling $500,000 toward a central mixed-use parking infrastructure project.
Mary of the community affairs division told commissioners Springfield had received $250,000 for a Main Street Convention District recruitment project in the FY2027 block grant but that the project had not begun and was no longer a city priority. "The city would like to use the funds towards the current parking garage project," Mary said. Springfield also asked to reallocate $250,000 originally granted for the Springfield Regional Visitors Event Center (FY2026) to the same parking project.
A commissioner moved to approve both reallocations so staff could generate grants and contracts for Springfield’s FY2027 grant; the motion was seconded and passed 4-0. Staff noted the commission has previously awarded over $3 million to the parking project and that ground has been broken.
