Commission adopts FY27 JET funding parameters, including 10% carve-out for correctional education

Matt Snedyke of the Workforce Development Division presented the Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) advisory board recommendations for fiscal year 2027 funding parameters and staff recommended adoption.
Snedyke said the advisory board recommended carving out a 10% allocation for correctional education entities (including the juvenile justice department, juvenile boards and probation boards), allocating 60% to open-enrollment charter schools and independent school districts and 30% to institutions of higher education. He confirmed minimum and maximum grant amounts would remain $40,000 and $375,000, the number of applications per eligible entity would remain one, and the minimum eligibility score would remain 60 percent of total points available.
Commissioners expressed support, and a motion to adopt the JET funding parameters for FY27 as recommended by the advisory board passed.
