Principal Lisa Roedel and Ross Veldheer, supervisor of student support systems, presented an instructional highlight at the Forest Hills Board of Education meeting on April 20 describing efforts at Knapp Forest Elementary to foster a stronger sense of belonging for every student. The presentation said staff use personalized greetings, morning meetings and recognition programs to make students feel "seen, valued, and engaged," and that survey data identified relationship-building routines and inclusive classroom practices as strengths.
Roedel and Veldheer told the board the survey results are guiding next steps, including development of PRIDE Pack connections across grade levels, introducing Early Bird Recess choices, and expanding opportunities for student voice and connections. The presentation linked those efforts to improved student confidence, engagement, and readiness to take academic risks, which the district said support better learning outcomes.
