Ellis County to assist Victoria and Ellis with chip-seal projects using county crews

Ellis County Public Works asked the commission on May 12 to assist the cities of Victoria and Ellis with chip-seal pavement work, and the commission approved both requests by voice vote.
Public Works staff said the cities will provide materials (rock, sand, oil) while county crews and equipment will apply the seal coats; the Victoria job was estimated at about 14,000 square yards and the Ellis request at roughly 18,000 square yards. Commissioner Nathan Leiker moved to approve the Victoria request and later moved for the Ellis request; both motions received seconding and passed.
Public Works noted the work is typically scheduled during harvest to minimize impacts on agriculture traffic and does not affect the county’s general road budget because CID or city-provided materials or bonding cover project costs. Commissioners thanked staff and affirmed the county's cooperative role with municipal partners.
