Owner of 10-acre Okeechobee parcel given until Nov. 14 to clear derelict vehicles

Oyla Villanueva, who said she purchased a 10.16-acre property with multiple derelict vehicles and other debris, told the special magistrate on Sept. 17 that cleanup has been difficult and costly.
Officer Griffin said the county noted several recreational vehicles and wrecked vehicles on the parcel and reported a tanker truck had been recently removed from the site. Villanueva asked for additional time to complete cleanup work; the county recommended a compliance date of Nov. 14, 2024 and a status conference on Nov. 19, 2024 if the property was still being cleared. The magistrate accepted the county recommendation and set the requested dates.
"I'm trying to move as fast as possible," Villanueva said, explaining the logistical and financial challenges of removing derelict vehicles and heavy mud from the site. The magistrate noted he had no reason to doubt her representations and set the compliance and status dates accordingly.
