Board authorizes $33,167 payment in Barilla v. Tomlinson court case; commissioners criticize prosecution handling

The Lorain County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 13 adopted Resolution No. 26-108 to pay $33,167.13 to attorney Jonathan Rosenbaum as the court-ordered damages and fees in Barilla v. Tomlinson (Lorain County Common Pleas Case No. 24CV211448).
Commissioner Jeff Riddell described the payment as a court order that commissioners must satisfy even when the matter is "unpleasant." Commissioner David J. Moore said the negotiated amount was larger than he felt was warranted and characterized aspects of the underlying dispute as "political lawfare," saying taxpayers would bear the cost. The motion to pay carried 2–0 with Commissioner Marty Gallagher excused.
