Commission recommends rezoning to 10‑acre lots after neighbors warn of agricultural fragmentation

The board voted unanimously to recommend that the County Board approve a land-use map amendment to Rural Residential 10 for a parcel in Daggett Brook Township, after hearing neighbor concerns that shifting directly to 5-acre lots would fragment high-quality agricultural land.
Chris Stewart, an adjacent landowner who manages rotational grazing on roughly 400 acres nearby, told commissioners the current comprehensive plan (adopted Aug. 27, 2024) shows this parcel as agricultural and forestry and warned that rezoning to 5-acre lots "would impact the neighboring properties and usage and possible future development," adding that rezoning to 5 acres away from roadways could set a precedent for future fragmentation. The applicant, Britney Toms, said she accepted the board's compromise to pursue Rural Residential 10 so the property could remain larger and not subdivide to 5-acre lots. The commission moved, seconded and approved the recommendation for RR10 to the County Board, 5–0; the County Board will consider the item Sept. 9 at 9 a.m.
