Crow Wing County staff propose 1,572-acre 2026 harvest plan; public hearing set for Nov. 25

Tom Strock of Land Services presented the county—orest management-derived 2026 harvest plan and said the department—xpects to set up roughly 1,572 acres for harvest next year. "Our 2026 goals are 1,572 acres," Strock said as he described the plan nd how it is derived from the county—orest management plan and a five-year candidate stand list.
Strock told commissioners that typical timber sales average 30–40 acres, that about 20% of planned acreage in 2026 is thinning, and that foresters perform a detailed field exam before any sale is set up or sold. He described the permit terms: summer permits for two years with an option to buy a one-year extension, winter sales typically three years with a one-year extension to account for access and weather. Commissioners asked to see more detailed maps; Strock said the display map used the yellow/gold color to show planned harvest polygons and offered to provide finer parcel-level detail on request.
The board agreed to place an agenda motion next week to set a public hearing in November. The chair and commissioners indicated they preferred placing the hearing on the consent agenda; staff confirmed the request will be listed to set the public hearing for November 25, 2025. No final sale decisions were made today; the hearing will be the next formal opportunity for public comment and formal action.
