Master Gardeners say patio‑garden program delivered 246 container gardens to Crow Wing County residents

Jennifer, a Crow Wing County Master Gardener volunteer, described a patio‑garden program at the Committee of the Whole meeting on Aug. 19 that provides small container gardens to residents with limited space or mobility.
"This last year, we donated or distributed 246 patio gardens," Jennifer said, and added that the group reduced the program’s per-kit retail estimate from $18 to about $15 to approximate local market prices. She listed partner recipients including senior centers, social‑service agencies, veterans’ volunteers and Habitat for Humanity recipients.
Presenters said the patio‑garden kits are accompanied by care instructions to help recipients maintain plants and that program staff have seen follow-on engagement from recipients and family members. Commissioners responded positively and the program invited board members to the Master Gardener open house the next day to see the outreach in action.
