“The trim notice mileage rate was 7.9 mills allocated entirely to the general fund which would generate $31,501,280 in Avalorum taxes,” the budget director said, describing staff’s estimate of ad valorem revenue. Staff told the board the 7.9-mill rate represents a 3.84% increase above the rollback rate of 7.6075 and recommended adopting the resolution that declares the rate is greater than the rollback rate and provides an effective date of Oct. 1, 2024.
Commissioner (mover) put the motion on the floor to adopt Resolution 2024-50, stating the motion text and the effective date. The chair conducted a voice vote, called for ayes and nays, and announced the motion carried unanimously; the transcript does not record a roll-call tally.
Why it matters: the tentative millage establishes the property-tax rate the county will use to calculate ad valorem collections in the proposed fiscal 2025 budget. The rate the board approved is the basis for the tentative budget and required public-notice steps under TRIM compliance.
