Valley Meals and More asks Carbondale for $7,500 to cover home-delivered meals gap

Mary Kenyon, executive director of Valley Meals and More, told trustees the Meals on Wheels program for eastern Garfield County needs $7,500 to cover the remaining gap for in-town deliveries for the latter half of 2026. She said the county provided $35,000 of an identified $49,000 shortfall and Glenwood Springs contributed $7,500; the remaining $7,500 would fund home-delivered meals to Carbondale residents.
Kenyon provided town-specific figures: of about 1,400 individuals age 60+ in the town limits, roughly 89 currently receive home-delivered meals in Carbondale, including daily deliveries to 24 Crystal Meadows residents. She asked trustees to consider placing a $7,500 contribution on the August agenda; the chair said the board cannot vote tonight but can add the request to the first meeting in August and discuss it there.
Kenyon also asked trustees to consider parity between congregate (dine-in) and home-delivered meal funding in upcoming MOU discussions with the county.
