City leaders and community volunteers gathered at a Play Sports town hall to introduce Clay Youth Sports, a locally led program aimed at expanding rec and travel opportunities for children across Clay. The mayor described an organizational chart that places "the most important people...our kids" at the top and said the program will rely on commissioners, coaches and a parks-and-rec board to manage day-to-day operations.
Organizers said the league will offer multiple sports and age groups, and that volunteer commissioners will help resolve on-field issues before escalating matters to staff. "The most important people are on top of our chart and the most important people are our kids," the mayor said, framing the program’s guiding principle. The city will post volunteer applications online and at events and expects a mix of parents, coaches and community volunteers to serve on the parks-and-rec board.
