Board approves owner-occupied short-term rental at 19 Crescent Road

The Town of Middletown Zoning Board granted a special-use permit to Clifton Hightower to operate an owner-occupied short-term rental at 19 Crescent Road.

Hightower said there are two bedrooms on the first floor and that he would remain on the premises in one bedroom while renting other rooms. A board member passed a color-coded map showing nearby short-term rentals and warned that repeated approvals could change the character of the neighborhood; another member countered that the application met the ordinance criteria. "Given the number of short term rentals in the area... I think, give it that given and... I'm gonna recommend it," one member said.
After the public portion was closed with no speakers in opposition, a motion to approve received a second and the board recorded the approval by voice vote in favor.
