Chincoteague council sends revised short-term-rental ordinance to public hearing

The Chincoteague Town Council voted to send a revised short-term-rental (STR) ordinance to a public hearing after discussion and public comment. Council action sent the modified ordinance forward for a public hearing, and the motion passed on a voice vote.
Several public commenters addressed elements of the STR proposal during the public-comment period. Laurie Baron said an 8 p.m. noise curfew in the ordinance is appropriate and urged the council to work with businesses and property owners to refine rules. She also raised zoning and inspection concerns, saying occupancy controls and safety inspections should be clearer in the ordinance.
Council staff described the ordinance language under consideration, including a referenced per-night fee baseline in the amended draft. The council set the modified ordinance for a public hearing in the coming cycle; the council did not vote on final adoption tonight.
The hearing will allow additional public input on enforcement, occupancy limits and whether inspections or zoning changes should apply to different property types.
