Board advances MCCOA millage language to August ballot, votes to send support letter
Summary
After public comment both opposing and supporting the proposal, the board accepted MCCOA millage language to appear on the August ballot (4–1) and approved sending a letter to NEMSCA backing MCCOA programming and continued state funding.
Commissioner Lloyd Peltier moved, and Commissioner James Madison seconded, to accept language for an MCCOA millage and place the measure on the August ballot; the motion passed on a 4–1 roll call with Commissioner Bob DeVriendt voting no.
The action followed public comment that included opposition (Denny Davis) and several speakers urging renewal. Controller Aprille Williamson had requested letters of support; later in the meeting the board, by motion of Mary Hardies and second of James Madison, voted to send a letter to the Northeast Michigan Senior Citizens Association (NEMSCA) supporting MCCOA and continued state funding, a motion that passed with a single dissent (DeVriendt).
